Reading a book is more enjoyable and meaningful when you can discuss it with someone else. One of the benefits of living in our Crest Hill apartments is access to the White Oak Library District and its assortment of online book clubs. Whether you prefer fiction, nonfiction, or more specific genres like true crime, you can find a regular meeting to hang out and talk books via Zoom. Check out some of the book clubs hosted by the Crest Hill Library as well as other nearby branches.
1. Tuesday Morning Book Club
This fiction book club is brought to you by the Lockport branch of the White Oak Library District. As the name suggests they meet via Zoom on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Past novels under discussion have included best-sellers like Belgravia, The Mother-in-Law, The Lost Girls of Paris, A Night Divided, and Where the Crawdads Sing.
2. Real Reads
Real Reads is also hosted by the Lockport branch, but focuses on nonfiction. They meet on the first Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. to discuss history, biography, and memoir. Check out past selections such as Jefferson’s Daughters, Killing England, The Good Neighbor: the Life and Work of Fred Rogers, and Educated.
3. True Crime
If you’re drawn in by the intrigue of unsolved mysteries, the Crest Hill branch has you covered. The branch hosts a regular true crime book club. Enjoy titles such as The Five, Furious Hours, The Trial of Lizzie Borden, and The Library Book.
4. Books and Beer
The Romeoville branch Books and Beer club is typically a great excuse to drink beer at the library without being promptly ejected from the premises. Lately, they continue to host discussions and beer tastings online. Contact the Romeoville branch for more information on this slightly more lax book club.
