About The Book Market in Crest Hill

The Book Market was first opened in Joliet in 1977 by owner Janet Staley and moved to Crest Hill in the late 1990s. Their current location on Plainfield Road opened in 2015, and it is the only independent bookshop in the greater Joliet area.

Their offerings are expansive, and they host great events as well. The Book Market is the perfect place to meet authors at special events like book signings and book release parties. Stop in for a chat with other book-loving customers and see why the Book Market is so special.

Book Selection

From brand new best-sellers to obscure, vintage books, and rare finds, The Book Market has it all. Check out the store’s top-selling genre, mystery novels, or browse from over 250,000 books. Other top sellers include science fiction series, adventure books, health guides, and books on contemporary social topics.

Can’t decide which book to choose? Staley and her staff love to talk literature and will help you find the perfect book for yourself or a gift for a loved one.

The Writing Community

The Book Market is also a home for the local writing community, hosting events and workshops for writers and book lovers. In 2018, The Book Market hosted the book release party for “WriteOn Joliet,” a local writer’s group. The group just released their second annual anthology, Write Where We Are.
